May Tips

May can be a very busy month on the allotment: early harvesting, seedlings ready to go out into the big wide world, and lots of other maintenance needing to be done.

As the months get warmer, it is important to keep on top of the weeding, watering, feeding, pest protection, and general maintenance. Make sure your crops are prepped to thrive by putting in stakes, protections, and if in doubt cover everything to protect it from slugs and snails.

May Planting

May is the perfect month to begin planting out things which have been living indoors unless they need a bit of extra indoor time.

There are still some new things which can be planted in May if you haven’t yet:

  • Beetroot,
  • Parsnips,
  • Peas,
  • Carrots,
  • Lettuce,
  • Radish,
  • Broccoli,
  • Kale,
  • Cabbage.
