July Tips

Watering, harvesting, pest control – the three main jobs for July on the allotment, with a bit of sowing thrown in to get ready for the autumn and winter harvesting crops.

Stay vigilant for pests and diseases that may start to creep in. Make sure to keep your plants in good condition by continue to turn over the soil, removing weeds, adding organic matter, and checking your plants for signs of pests / disease / malformities. You may also need to add shade into your allotment and greenhouses if it’s a particularly hot and sunny July.

July Planting

As the weather continues to heat up, its time to start sowing the crops for harvesting later in the year:

  • Carrots,
  • Lettuce,
  • Radishes,
  • Turnips,
  • Beetroot,
  • Spring cabbage,
  • Peas,
  • Fennel,
  • Chicory,
  • Pak choi,
  • Autumn / winter salads.
