August Tips

Make sure to keep your allotment well watered as Summer continues to rumble on. Continue to stay vigilant for pests and diseases and keep on top of weeding. You may be at your allotment everyday harvesting, and it is key to pick the crops at the right time for ripeness and taste.

You may have beds which are emptying out by this point in the year as they have finished their Summer harvest. Now is a good time to prepare these bed for Winter crops and plan what you might like to plant for the later half of the year and over-wintering crops.

If you’re growing fruit, make sure you are taking extra measures to protect them from birds as the fruits begin to ripen.

There’s always time for more planting:

  • Lettuce,
  • Beetroot,
