November
November Tips
If the soil is not yet frozen, seize the last chance to get as much planted for over-wintering as possible to reduce the work load in the spring. November can be when allotment life really slows down for the Winter but there is still plenty to be done and it’s important to be regularly visiting your allotment.
- Continue to dig over your beds as they empty of Summer crops,
- Prune any plants that need it,
- Collect up any additional matter you can add to your compost heap,
- Regularly check on the condition of your over-wintered crops,
- Plan ahead for the next year of allotment life,
- Make sure none of your materials fall victim to the harsher weather.
November Planting
There are still a few things you can plant in November:
- Broad beans,
- Onions,
- Shallots,
- Garlic,
- Pak choi,
- Asparagus,
- Dormant barefoot fruit trees.
