BMX Track

The original BMX track was built in 1980 led by Geoff Wiles who worked for Halfords at the time and had been to the USA to look into the sport. This was where BMX racing in the UK was incepted. On his return from the USA Geoff Wiles approached the Redditch Corperation to secure the parcel of land free of charge to use to build the BMX race track. On the 30th August the first official UK BMX race was held sponsored by Halfords which still has its head office in Redditch just down the road.

In 1981 the UK’s first international BMX Meeting took place on the 3rd May. Sponsored by Halfords. With nearly 300 competitors it was the largest BMX event in the UK of its time. This event bought together some of the most influential local, national and international riders of the early days of BMX racing in the UK.

After 30 years of use in 2010 the new BMX track and building were built and opened on the 9th April. The £320,000 facility was funded by Redditch Borough Council and British Cycling and operated by the Redditch Premiers BMX Club.
