'Locally listed' buildings
Any historic building that we to be worthy of retention, but that doesn't meet English Heritage listing criteria, may be 'locally listed'.
This means we enter it onto our Schedule of Buildings of Local Interest. There is no legal protection against demolition of buildings of local interest, but our adopted schedule is considered in our planning decision making and carries weight at planning appeals.
A building may qualify for listing due to:
- Authenticity
- Historic significance
- Architectural significance
- Townscape significance
