Bin tags
Collection crews regularly check bins to make sure they contain the right kind of items for that specific bin. Contaminated green recycling bins cause problems for our disposal, recycling and composting facilities and mean the whole load can be rejected and sent to landfill.
If your green recycling bin has things inside that we cannot recycle the collection crew will attach a bin tag reminding you of the things that you can put in the bin.
If the crew notice on a following occasion your bin still contains things that can't be recycled, they will attach another bin tag reminding you of what you can put in the green bin and asking you to remove the incorrect items. We will not return to empty your bin and it will be emptied on the next 2 weekly collection. If there are any additional recyclables for that next collection they can be placed inside a cardboard box alongside the bin for collection.
Things we regularly find in green recycling bins that we cannot recycle:
- Bin Liners
- Plastic Bags
- Polystyrene
- Nappies
- Clothes/towels and bedding
- Plastic Wrappers
- Cat Litter
- Animal bedding (sawdust/hay)
All the above should go in your grey bin.
