Fire safety

Fire kills. Check your home and make sure that it is fire safe. Pay particular attention to your kitchen: two thirds of fires happen due to cooking.

Local fire safety officers can provide you with free advice about staying safe in your home.

If you live in a block of flats please read this leaflet about fire safety when your home shares access with other homes.

In case of fire

1. Remain calm
2. Get out as quickly as possible, closing all doors to prevent the spread of fire 
3. Call 999
4. If you are trapped:
5. Close the door of the room you are in
6. Seal any gaps under the door with a towel or clothes
7. Shout for help
