Walking on the wicket

The latest round of FREE Walking Cricket sessions are due to start early next month across the Borough.

Redditch Borough Council are hosting the free to participate sessions throughout the cricket season, starting on Monday 5th May 2025, between 6pm-7pm at Terry Memorial Fields, B97 4AU.

Redditch Borough Council Sports Development Officer, Hayley Gwilliam, said: “Cricket is a sport loved by many people, but it can require a high level of fitness to keep up with the running whilst fielding. Walking Cricket eliminates that with its unique set of rules, meaning that anyone can play even if you aren’t as mobile as you used to be!”

Walking Cricket is a slower version of the game loved by many, but even though it is slower, it still provides many benefits to participation.

The benefits can include:

  • improving heart health, including reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure
  • improving strength and endurance - keeping you active and independent living
  • boosting mental health and well-being, playing with others can help boost your mood as it relieves stress and anxiety

Information about the rules of Walking Cricket can be found on the Redditch Borough Council website here.
