Shopmobility on the home straight

Redditch District Council’s Shopmobility service moving into its new home is edging ever closer.

After considering a number of options, Councillors agreed that 9 George Walk, a retail unit within the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, will become the home of Shopmobility.

As well as a new location, the new updated fleet of scooters will also be coming very soon, giving users more modern options to utilise during their time in Redditch.

Portfolio Holder for Community Services and Regulatory Services, Cllr Monica Stringfellow said: “The Shopmobility service is integral to Redditch Town Centre and it moving to a more accessible location with a brand-new fleet, can only be a good thing for residents and visitors alike.”

The new location will provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere as well as an easier to find location, which will give easier access to public transport.

The successful Redditch Dial a Ride drops users at Car Park 3 where the current Shopmobility office is, the plan would be for staff to meet users there with scooters so although the base has moved the service doesn’t slip.

Leader of Redditch Borough Council, Cllr Joe Baker, said: “It’s brilliant news that the new location for our Shopmobility service will very soon be ready! With this investment, it gives people more confidence in the fleet as well as giving better access to service for public transport users whilst not comprising the fantastic service currently in place.”

“I don’t want to put a brick wall around Redditch, I want people to visit Redditch, making Shopmobility more accessible to all is a brilliant way to encourage that.”

The council encourages Shopmobility users and residents to keep an eye out on social media for the upcoming launch date.
