Residents welcome upgrade to retirement complex
Residents living in Malvern House, a council-run retirement complex in Headless Cross, have expressed their satisfaction with recent works to upgrade the property.
The works, which were organised and completed by Redditch Borough Council’s Capital Programmes and Repairs and Maintenance Teams, were delivered with the aim of improving the safety and comfort of residents living in the properties.
The project took approx. nine months, over two phases, to complete and cost £305,000 from the Capital Programmes Budget. Key elements of the project included:
- Installation of fire doors to ensure compliance with the latest safety regulations.
- Fire compartmentation to ensure compliance with new fire regulations.
- New Smart LED lighting to common areas.
- New laundry equipment.
- New decorations to common areas.
- Installation of new carpets to all common areas to create a more inviting and attractive living environment for residents.
The extensive renovation work, which included bringing the building in line with rigorous fire safety regulations and enhancing its aesthetic appeal, have been gratefully received by residents who have commended the council’s proactive response to their concerns, commenting that the upgrades are: “Very nice”, “the doors are lovely” and “lovely, the work has transformed the block.”
Portfolio Holder for Housing Services, Cllr Craig Warhurst, expressed his satisfaction with the successful completion of the renovation project: “Ensuring the safety and comfort of our residents is a top priority for this administration and I am glad that the stars aligned so that we could complete this project and give residents what they wanted and needed. We are committed to continuing our efforts to provide safe and welcoming housing for all members of our community.”
Councillors and officers from the Housing Department visited Malvern House to meet the residents, see the works and discuss how the changes have improved the quality of life for tenants living there.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Matt Dormer, said: “It was great to meet some of the residents at Malvern House and see how these improvements have improved their quality of life. We always do our best to listen to what our residents need and will action this wherever possible. Thank you to everyone involved, from our Housing Capital Team to the staff on the ground making the repairs, and of course, most importantly, our residents for baring with us while our teams worked hard to make these upgrades a reality.”
Redditch Borough Council are committed to enhance the quality of housing they provide across the borough, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their tenants with projects funded by the Housing Capital Team in conjunction with other housing teams such as Repairs and Maintenance, Tenancy, and others.
