New MS Support Group Starting for Residents in Redditch
A new support group for residents living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is starting next month at Arrow Valley Visitor Centre.
The first meeting will be a chance to have an informal coffee and chat to shape how the group will meet and work going forwards.
MS is a health condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, which can make it difficult to move. Previously, Redditch Borough Council successfully delivered a specialist exercise class face to face for those living with MS for over 20 years. During the COVID-19 Pandemic delivery moved online and has since continued to connect participants with specialist exercise and each other remotely every week.
This new monthly support group represents the opportunity for residents living with or affected by MS to meet up face to face to build a supportive community in the Borough for those with or affected by MS.
Leader of the Council, Cllr. Matt Dormer, said: “This is a really good opportunity for residents who are living with MS to come together to help each other find ways to cope with their symptoms. Empowering them to design a group which will work for their needs is an important part of allowing residents the chance to access the type of support they need.”
The first meeting is on the 13th of March from 10am till 12pm. The group will meet monthly at the Boathouse Café at Arrow Valley Visitor Centre, B98 0LJ. The group will evolve over time, with attendees suggesting topics for discussion amongst their peers and providing signposting to relevant services.
Cllr. Dormer added: “The group taking place at the Arrow Valley Countryside Centre is a bonus. Having green open spaces, like Arrow Valley, at the centre of our town allows residents to benefit from the positives associated with spending time outdoors and socialising with others.”
The new group will give residents the chance to meet others living with the same condition as them and find mutual support. Please come along to get involved, meet others, and suggest how you’d like to see this group work going forward.
