Brand new facilities at Morton Stanley to officially open
Redditch Borough Council is pleased to announce that the official opening of the brand-new Morton Stanley Café and toilets will take place at Morton Stanley Park on Saturday 9th July.
The new facilities will be open from 9.30am this coming Saturday after months of work creating infrastructure, building, and fitting out the café and toilets.
This project has been in collaboration with Wernick (Modular Building Contractor) and Kelbec (Civils Contractor) working with Council’s Leisure, Engineering, Legal and Facilities teams. The new tenant operator has been selected through the council’s procurement process and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in running a park café - James and Rosie are looking forward to meeting and greeting all of their visitors, with a range of light refreshments on offer.
Portfolio Holder for Leisure Services, Cllr Jo Beecham, said: “I cannot tell you how excited I am for the café and facilities to finally open in Morton Stanley. From having nothing at all in the park to now having the infrastructure, toilets, café, and James and Rosie to run it, we’ve come a very long way. I’m so pleased these facilities will now be open in time to enjoy over the school holidays. Morton Stanley is a fantastic park, and these new facilities mean our residents can now enjoy it for longer.”
Leader of the Council, Cllr Matt Dormer, said: “This has been a much-anticipated project within the park. A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes to get to this point and I must thank everyone involved in making it happen. These new facilities are a true example of how we are unlocking Redditch.”
Morton Stanley Park is one of Redditch Borough Council’s flagship parks and occupies a prominent position to the west of Redditch and provides an important ‘green lung’ for the local community.
The park has a history of Green Flag status and enjoys multiple attractions, which include a recently refurbished toddler and junior play area, teen risky play, skate park, football pitches, changing rooms along with extensive wildflower meadows (sustained by the commitment and hard work of the Midweek Volunteers) and woodland walks.
Many visitors use this popular green venue for a variety of reasons to enjoy both passive and active recreation as well as community events and sporting activities. The new café and toilets will support extended visits to the park for the community of Redditch.
