What is Neighbourhood Planning?
Neighbourhood Planning allows communities to come together to decide how they want their local area to develop.
Neighbourhood Plans can be developed by Town and Parish Councils or by Neighbourhood Forums outside of a Parished area. Once adopted, they form part of the statutory development plan for the area and must be taken into consideration when determining planning applications.
To be adopted by the Borough Council, Neighbourhood Plans must:
- Be in general conformity with the development strategy and policies set out within our existing local plans.
- Undergo an independent examination
- Get a minimum of 50% approval from residents in a local referendum
